Who We Are

Welcome to
Our Parish

Rooted in history from three former parishes, we are dedicated to fostering a welcoming community where faith flourishes.

Our parish is committed to celebrating the sacraments, providing spiritual guidance, hosting community events, and offering access to faith resources for all who seek connection and understanding through Christ.

Our History

St Margaret Clitherow Parish serves much of South Leeds and was formed from three parishes dating back to the mid-19th century:

St Joseph’s, Hunslet

Opened in 1860, rebuilt in 1971, closed in 1994, and later demolished in 2005.

St Peter’s, Belle Isle

Began in 1937, formally opened in 1953 to designs by Charles Fox, and remodelled in 1984 by Peter Langtry-Langton.

St Philip’s, Middleton

Originated as a Mass centre in the 1920s. A church was built in 1933 and later replaced in 1996 by the present church, designed by Michael Bateson Associates.
